The Fifth Wall: Your Ceiling

Apartment Therapy recently posted a wonderful little gallery of painted ceilings which further prove the point that ceilings don't always need to be white! When choosing a more muted palette for walls, a little colour can be placed on the ceiling to create some drama and highlight beautiful architectural details. Adding a darker colour to a high ceiling can also visually bring the ceiling down to aid in creating a more intimate space. The placement of some colour on your ceiling can also cut the contrast between your wall and ceiling thus making a much softer transition on the eye from one colour to the next. Bright bold colours will draw attention - who says your ceiling can't be your focal point.
